Thread: I want to unlock my 3GS

  1. #1
Default I want to unlock my 3GS
    The data:
iPhone 3GS 16GB, locked to Orange UK, new bootrom
4.2.1 firmware version, 05.15.04 modem firmware

I have zero experience with jailbreaking. I would like to be able to use other SIM cards with the phone. Could you please link me some guides relevant to my particular situation?

If you 3GS is already jailbroken, it is a simple process of installing the iPad 6.15.0 baseband. Your GPS accuracy will be lost (location services still work), and a custom firmware restore is required in the future ... but it unlocks.

But @anuxxer2 ... before you attempt this, play it safe just in case something goes wrong and a restore is needed.

Use Tiny Umbrella to check which SHSH blobs are available.

SHSH blobs are required to restore any non-current iOS (except 3GS 4.1).
Download and run Tiny Umbrella (link below, post #1), advanced tab,
    ... check 'set Hosts to Cydia', Save SHSH, give it a min to finish;
... uncheck 'set Hosts to Cydia', Save SHSH, give it a min to finish.
... In the General tab, what SHSH blobs are displayed?

If you iDevice is jailbroken and working, open Cydia.
At the top, look for a line starting with "SHSH: iOS "
The numbers (if any) shown after are blobs Cydia saved for you automatically.
Both TU and Cydia should match . Close Cydia

While you're waiting, re-read post #1 in the Tiny Umbrella link for valuable info.

This assumes that my iPhone is jailbroken, which it isn't. I would like a tutorial showing me how to jailbreak it first so that i don't break anything.

SHSH blobs are available to ALL phones, stock and jailbroken.
Follow the instructions and see what is available.

I believe Orange UK just like O2 have an iPhone unlocking policy. Try contacting them first before upgrading your baseband

I can't get the program to work. I'm getting the "System (pid:4) must be killed error". When I try to kill it using the command line, I get the "access denied error" (even when running as admin). I've disabled my firewall and avast, but I'm still getting the error.

Stop or kill Teamviewer or skype. Re-download Tiny Umbrella and try again.
If it still doesn't work, either the OS is corrupt or something installed on your computer is causing this problem. Look at the installed programs for virus/malware/ program types. Some prevent non-authorized program execution.

If another computer is available, try it. It might help discover the current problem
