Just updated my 3GS (old bootrom) to 4.3.3 with custom IPSW made by sn0wbreeze and my phone does not start. No DFU or anything. Black screen. Tried pressing both the power and home button for 30-60 seconds but nothing happens...

When restoring to 4.3.3 custom you need to make sure your hosts are pointed to Apple and that you are not using tiny umbrella at all.

How do I do this thing with the hosts?

Open tiny umbrella, click on advanced. Deselect the box that says "set hosts to cydia on exit". Click apply and close tiny umbrella. Then try the restore to the custom firmware again.

Did you enter pwned DFU again first with redsnow or iReb?

Used sn0wbreeze to create it and then pressed shft+restore in itunes to select the custom IPSW

You need to enter pwned DFU first with either redsnow or iReb before you can restore to a custom firmware. Otherwise you will get 16XX errors.

OK, I think I see a light now
    Cheers!

OK I did the restore to the custom IPSW and it's off. I just turn it on and launch cydia for ultrasn0w?
Sorry for bothering you but with the iphone 4 (unlocked) I don't do unlocks often

Nothing...did the restore but I'm back to where I was before. How do I proceed from here?

Finally did it. My custom IPSW was not j/b, just preserved the baseband.
    Thanks!

    hi
    I have an iphone 3gs 4.2.1 with baseband 06.05.00
In that time when I was doing it it was the only option to activate and unlock it.
My GPS is not working obviously.
My question is there any option what will make my gps working and unlock and activate it without original sim card?
    I really need some help.
    Thanks

I have a 3G with 4.2.1 & Baseband 05.15.04-5.9. If I upgrade baseband to 06.15, thereby losing GPS, might I be able to re-gain GPS when new unlockers become available in the future?

Thanks Mes. If I go ahead with it, sounds like I should make a custom IPSW for restoring purposes. Never done it before. Any suggestions as to whether I go with pwnage tool versus sn0wbreeze?

I have always preferred pwnage tool myself. Especially for 4.2.1.

Actually, it may be possible for a 3GS but not for a 3G. There are no future updates for iPhone 3G, so there will no longer be baseband upgrades which is necessary to get off the iPad bb and regain GPS function. Unless the devs put their focus on downgrading the baseband, which has been accomplished for BL 5.8 devices, but it seems there isn't progress or that either.
