It is supposed to work on it but I have seen a lot of issues with it for iPhone 3G (cydia not opening, getting stuck at apple logo after restore etc.) so I wouldnt recommend for iPhone 3G yet. But you can try it if you want.

You can always restore to 3.1.3 then use redsn0w 0.9.4 to jailbreak.

I thought we could unlock and keep our current "4.1" baseband and create a custom IPSW with 4.2.1 iOS and the 05.14.02 baseband using PwnageTool.

Is that correct or have I been hitting the crack pipe?

You can use a custom firmware to keep your baseband unlocked but update to the latest firmware. Or you can use TinyUmbrella which preserves your baseband but allows you to update AND backup using their TSS servers. (I believe)

iOS 4.2 (or 4.2.1) better come out soon!

We believe this will also work for the next version AND for iPhone 4 only!

But check first!! Look, read, understand before jumping. No-one knows 100% what doors Apple will close in the next release.

We're waiting for the FINAL release - whatever number that ends up being. Will be easy to see, it'll show up in iTunes.

Hmm well engadget and the apple website say it's out. TUAW and my iTunes seem to think not yet. TUAW says in a few hours

I think Engadget may have jumped the gun a little bit.

Guys, please, stop the repeat posting. In this same thread is the info on how to JB your phone to 4.1 with pwnage without upgrading the baseband. If you already restored to 4.1 by mistake, like me, using itunes, we WILL be able to unlock a couple of days AFTER 4.2 is released by apple.

We are circling over the same question again and again.

There is NO UNLOCK for Basebands 15.4 and 2.10 as of yet, and WON'T BE until 4.2 is released by apple.
