Default just another mess, the old "Different SIM detected Please connect to iTunes"
    hello all,

so yea, i got an iphone i'm trying to jailbreak/unlock for a friend, because i was able to do so for myself using my girlfriend's old 3g... that makes me the resident expert in modding iphones for all i guess.

problem is, i dont know what this guy gave me... yes, it's an iphone 3g, yes it has Cydia installed, and i have already installed/reinstalled ultrasn0w now a few times, but when i insert a non AT&T SIM into it, i get the dreaded Different SIM detected Please connect to iTunesmessage.

now, i've done a ton of reading, and i dont know where to begin to ask questions, it seems the more i read, the more questions i end up with...

so here i am asking for the masses to hold my hand through the process of fixing this problem

    some details about the phone:

    Model: MB046LL
    iOS version: 3.1.3(7E18)
    Modem Firmware: 05.14.02

some things i've read included walking it back, restoring it, restarting it, connecting to itunes, updating it, connecting in DFU mode, etc...

so here's my question: where do i begin?

You cannot unlock this iphone, the baseband is already updated. If you are not with the official carrier, then you can only use it as an ipod touch.

are you kidding? what in the details allows you to know this? there's no undoing what has been done? from what i've read, there's always something, however difficult it may be

does anybody have an answer to my questions?

There is one thing you can try but it is a slim chance. Get fuzzy band and run it with the phone plugged in. It will tell you the bootloader and if it's 5.08 you can downgrade the basement on a 3G. Other than that you wait for new ultrasn0w which should be out November.

Unfortunately there isn't. Baseband isn't downgradable except in a few rare circumstances.

5.14.02 isn't unlockable at the moment. There is supposed to be an unlock coming next month. Until then, it's just an ipod touch.
