    ya I am doing everything right still it's not working.
    what is DFU mode? and how do I put my phone in it? What does it do?
    also, how do I create a custom fw?

    Geez... You have a lot of things to learn lol.

    Google "dfu mode iphone" and there will be a guide actually plenty of guides that you how.

    Attempt the shift+restore again after.

    If thay fails, download Sn0wbreeze to create a custom fw. Google "Sn0wbreeze 3.1.2 guide" and you will find a tutorial on how to use Sn0wbreeze.

    After you use sn0wbreeze, make sure you save that custom fw where you can find it. Put the phone in DFU and attempt shift+restore with the custom fw again.

    ok so dfu mode didnt work because it said to upgrade also there.

    now as for snowbreeze, its a jailbreak, so should i just rejailbreak my phone with that new firmware that i need to download?

    Um... No when itunes prompts you to upgrade you ignore it but you still have to keep going and do the shift+restore while the phone is in DFU mode.

    Did you not read the tutorials for Sn0wbreeze? You dont know how custom firmwares work? You have to run Sn0wbreeze to create the custom firmware so that you can shift+restore to it afterwards.

    You should really try putting it in DFU mode and shift+restoring to the stock 3.1.2 fw first...
