Thread: iphone 4GB

    Default iphone 4GB
I have been offered a iphone 4GB. This iphone was originally locked to a USA network operator the phone has been unlocked to work in the UK. I would like to use it to replace my ipod touch which is running 2.2.1. I think it is running an earlier version of the firmware. Can I just update it to say 2.2.1 or would a firmware upgrade remove the carrier unlock that has been applied?

What are my options (I don't want to end up with a paper weight)?
I don't want an iphone I cannot use to run apps on, due to the age of the firmware version installed on it.

Thanks in advance for any advice

You can update to any firmware with the 2G iPhone and then unlock it. I say update to 3.0 and unlock using redsn0w 0.8. Then you can just use it as an iPod without having a sim card in it.
If I helped you, then hit the "Thanks!" button please.
