Default new phone 2g to 3g
    Hi,
    does anyone know the answer.

I have a 2g iphone since new jailbroken using ziphone - way back to quickpwn phone now on 2.2.1 and unlocked

I don't need to worry about unlock or firmware version like the 3g iphones

However, just bought a 2nd hand ebay 3g phone which is activated. Im stuck with carrier, but not concerned as activated.

also as its activated don't need to use quickpwn or anything.

This 2nd hand iphone is version 2.1 modem firmware 2.11.07 so again no issues with worry about the unlock issue when move to 2.2

When I connect to itunes its saying use backup of last iphone to restore to or setup as new iphone ?

so if i do restore to last connected iphone (ie my 2g) which will bring all my information, but will perform a restore, will I lose activation and will firmware update as part of the restore ?

again if I choose the other option setup as new iphone, will it try and move me to the new 2.2 version thus updating firmware and stopping any choice i would have to go to unlock on yellowshow ?

any ideas whats best way ? anyone done it before ?

    Thanks

    Brian

You can use a custom ipsw of 2.2.1 with baseband 2.28.03 and install.

    Thanks,

That will stop me getting the dreaded 2.30.

But what, as its activated and working on my sim now, and 3g works and its works on wifi.

So now when I connect to itunes it says

    Setup as new iphone

If I press continue, will this just allow me to upload my photos, music etc, or will it first de-activate it ?

I'm not too worried about jailbrake or unlock, and it would be neat to just have the phone with all my data on it.

What do you recon, press continue and thats it it will just allow me to add or wil it try and de-activate and get me to signup ?

    Here's what happened

I choose setup as new iphone

and it just simply transferred all my music, photos, contacts, video to the phone no bother

it didn't de activate or anything

so I have a working phone and all my old iphone 2g data on it

    Great

If you have an AT&T SIM you can just re-activate it.
Try restoring from your backup, if it doesn't work then just restore again.
I'n fairly certain you will need to re-activate after a restore anyway.
