Thread: "officially" unlocked?

    Default "officially" unlocked?
So, I'm reading an eBay ad on the new 3G iPhone that claims it is "officially" Unlocked by Telstra - in Austrailia.

Actually, I have heard of this before.

So let's assume that is true. Wouldn't copying this "official" Firmware be the solution to U.S. unlocking?

Or is extracting this Firmware too hard to do?

There are officially unlocked phones in Italy and Hong Kong.

The software (firmware) is already jailbroken. The "unlock" is related to the baseband, and therefore is related to the hardware of the phone.

That's why 2.0 can be unlocked on the first generation, and not the 3G.

I got mine unlocked by the official carrier. They did it in 2 seconds. It was nice!
