Thread: iOS8 Theme Guide

  1. #1
    Default iOS8 Theme Guide
Hopefully this will explain how to use tools from Winterboard to create a complete theme. Also will have some theme templates.

A few things this post will explain.

    -WB Debug
    -WB Record Images
    -What is ThemeLib
    -Theme Examples

    -WB Debug
Winterboard debug is your best friend. No longer will you need to search for hours to find an image you want to theme. It is quite easy to do, but does require you to open Terminal. I know you don't want to, but trust me it is simple.

    1. Download APT 0.7 Strict from Cydia
    2. Turn the switch on in winterboard for Debug Logging
    3. *Log into your phone via Terminal
    4. Type: apt-get install socat press enter if you get an error type: apt-get install then apt-get install socat
    5. Type: socat - UNIX-CONNECT:/var/run/lockdown/syslog.sock press enter
    6. Type: watch press enter

To end the watching, type quit.

As soon as you type watch the screen will start displaying what your phone is doing. It will also show every image that is getting displayed. If you open safari then on the screen you will see all of Safari's images pass by your eyes. All the images shown can be themed.

The photo shows Bundle/bundleid/image that needs to be themed. For example if you wanted to get all the cydia icons for settings, just turn this on and open the settings app. All bundles and all names are given to you. The only thing it doesn't give you is the image. Which more than likely you can grab the image from the link at the bottom of this post.

Here is a more in depth explanation. Winterboard Debug

*Login to your phone by typing: ssh [email protected] ip. Find your ip address by going to settings and clicking the i next to wifi. After this you will be prompted for a password. The default password is alpine.

    -WB Record Images
WB will also record some Images to tmp/WBImages. You will get your uikit.artwork, com.apple.springboard, springboardUIframework, MediaPlayerUI, AddressBookUI, and a few others. It will not give you per app images, but Winterboard Debug will give you everything in detail.

-ThemeLib Full Thread Dedicated to discussing this. HERE
ThemeLib is a WinterBoard extension. It will basically theme anything that has nothing to do with core asset replacement. The thought Coolstar had was why have Classic Badge (themes the badges), Classic Dock (themes the dock), Classic Clock (themes the clock hands and all), etc and why not put it all in one tool. Which is what become ThemeLib. It will play a big role in theming I feel, just give it time as it is quite new.

It also has a .car dumping tool. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but will post when I do.

    Source Code - https://github.com/coolstar/themelib
    Repo - coolstar.org/publicrepo

    -Theme Examples
Here are some theme templates I have ready. LINK

Here is a bunch of extracted files. They are not ready to just throw in the phone I had to remove the .app to batch in photoshop. (which all images are red). Best way to use this is run WinterBoard Debug, then search this folder for the image name. Create the bundle and add to your theme.

    100+ iOS8 .car/UIImages

Feel free to ask any questions below. I will try my best to help.

Yes you will need to do it from a Mac as you can open apps while you have terminal open. Did you install APT?

It's been a long time since I messed with pc, but don't see why that wouldn't work.

Updating corrected it. Tried terminal through WinSCP, but it kept timing out. It works with iFunBox though, for anyone else using this with a PC.

It records every touch that I make, pretty cool.

    Thanks for the help!
