    Question 3gs still on 3.1.3
Hey guys the wife's 3gs is still on 3.1.3 & she desperately needs a restore as her phone is slow as molasses so instead of just restoring I want to update it as well..

She needs it unlocked & keep her 5.12.01 baseband whats the best way to update this & to what version OS..?
I have a sn0wbreeze image @ 4.3.3 ready to put on it but is there anything for 4.3.5 untethered ?
Also have all blobs from 3.1.3 to 5.0b3

    Peace.!

EDIT crap sorry this should be in the general iphone forum..

    4.3.5 is not fully jailbroken.
You want 4.2.1 (most prefer) or 4.3.3.
Both use the latest sn0wbreeze and will retain the ultrasn0w unlock .
Use Tiny Umbrella + TSS server before shift/select cfw restoring w/iTunes

Looks like you're ready to go w/4.2.1 or 4.3.3

Note: iTunes verion > 10 is needed

    Ok cool thanks

Why is 4.2.1 preferred over 4.3.3..?
    More stable..?

4.2.1 -> 4.3.3 included more Apple anti-jailbreaking code, like an additional check for mis-matched basebands.
On the plus side, 4.3.3 included Personal HotSpot for infrastructure tethering and little more.

After building the custom firmware w/Sn0wbreeze ....
Continue with Sn0wBreeze and follow the count-down timer to enter pwnd-DFU mode?

    Error 1604

Device was not pwned (signature checks were not blocked). Custom firmware can't be restored. Can also happen when there's a problem with the IPSW. iTunes Errors - The iPhone Wiki

Ugg. Make sure you have the latest sn0wbreeze. Re-download the 4.3.3 ipsw. Don't use bootlogos and select the new boot-rom.

    Error 37

Recent sn0wbreeze can cause this issue. Deselect all custom boot logos, recreate IPSW. If received on an iPhone 3GS, select "new boot-rom" and deselect all custom bootlogos, then recreate the IPSW.
Note: Power + Home for 8-10 seconds will power it off completely. A high-low computer sound should be heard as confirmation.

Note 2: I hate 4.3.3 It can be tricky to load. A custom firmware is the most reliable.

I would start over, reboot the computer, disable firewall and anti-virus software, connect the iPhone. If it's not recognized, don't worry. Hold the power + home for 6-8 seconds. Maybe you'll hear the computer high-low USB disconnect sound, maybe not. During the Sn0wbreeze pwnd-DFU mode if it's not detected, then we have a problem. Leave iTunes open if it opens, if it's closed leave it closed until you're ready to restore. Make sure iTunes is version 10 or higher

I did try again with newly built 4.3.3 but failed & now its trying to fix recovery mode again..

    What does this mean...?
Error, no successful firmware download after 60000 ms!! Giving up... This is what it says after trying to fix recovery..

    As i wait I'll make a 4.2.1 image & try it next if that fails guess I'll find a 3.1.3 os..lol dang

Did sn0wbreeze report the phone entered pwnd-DFU mode?

Between the three, 3.1.3 is the easiest to restore.
TU + TSS server, stock 3.1.3 (unlock preserved), plus redsn0w 0.9.4 to jailbreak.

Yep it entered DFU the 1st time
But the 2nd time it automatically went to iREB without asking me to put it in DFU..

But iTunes failed instantly with error 9 or something..

    Let's try a different approach.

Build the 4.3.3 custom firmware like normal and exit Sn0wbreeze. Start TU + TSS server.
Then use the redsn0w redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc19 for one purpose, select only 'enter pwnd-DFU mode'
Then on to iTunes for the shift/select cfw restore.
If iTunes reports and error, stop and post ....
