Default 3G on 3.1.3 already has jailbreak
I have a 3G on 3.1.3 with jailbreak done(showing 3.1.2) and I want to do the shift restore method in itunes and upgrade to either 4.0 or 4.0.2. If I do it this way will I still have the jailbreak? unlocking is of no concern to me.

Thanks for any and all help.....

p.s. I have already downloaded 4.0 and 4.0.2 (restore) firmware

do you have shsh on 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2? if you do then you can use tiny umbrella and restore. if you DONT EVER NEED AN UNLOCK, then you can go directly to 4.1 ( faster than 4.0) and use redsn0w to jailbreak it again

Redsn0w for 4.1 is Mac only, just want you to be aware of that. Sn0wbreeze 2.0.1 (tho buggy) is a windows method to JB iPhone 3G.

Will redsnow (windows) jb 4.0.2 or even 4.0 without shsh (whatever that is)

you don't need shsh to jb an iphone 3g on any of the iOS 4 firmware. you only need shsh if u need to downgrade. i would just flash it to 4.0, save the SHSH, then proceed to build a custom 4.1 firmware with sn0wbreeze 2.01 then shift+restore from that custom ipsw thus not upgrading the baseband.

If you're already jb on 3.1.3 with redsn0w, you can simply dl a 4.1 stock ipsw and create a custom fw with Sn0wbreeze 2.0.1 then shift+restore to the custom fw right where you are. No need to restore with SHSHs and all that junk. It'll just take you straight to jailbroken 4.1.

If you are on 3.1.3 and you used jailbreakme to jailbreak, then you will need to restore again and do a rejailbreak with redsn0w because jailbreakme is a userland jb and cannot utilize custom fw.
