    If it the custom firmware its the 1604 error if its regular its 1601

    Have you tried in Recovery mode or even DFU mode when restoring to CFW

    Error 1604 means cfw is not compatible to your present status of your Ipod. Now, why don't you try and restore to stock 4.0 and see what happens.
