Thread: First time jailbreaking

    Default First time jailbreaking

I have a legally unlocked iphone running on tmobile. I'm thinking about jailbreaking for the first time using red snow.

I have some quick questions...If I follow the redsnow unlock guide and successfully unlock my phone:

    1) what do I have to do if I ever need to remove the jailbreak?
    2) Do I just do the same thing as I would for #1 if apple releases a new update? I.e. say when version 4.0 comes out?
    3) Say I have been jailbreaked and synced my phone to my computer and been using jail broken ups and doing normal back ups for months and then #1 or #2 happened. Exactly what data am I going to lose when unjailbreaking? Contacts? Application data? settings?

p.s. is there a way to rename itunes iphone backups? (so I can possibly get it to create more than one at a time?)

    1. In iTunes, just click 'Restore'. That'll remove the jailbreak.
    2. Not exactly, see above.
    3. No data will be lost. I don't believe iTunes stores any data from jailbroken apps.
    4. Just move the folder backup folder to a safe location and do a sync in iTunes. That'll make a new backup and you'll have the old one stored elsewhere.
