Thread: Jailbreaking 3.0.1 question

    Default Jailbreaking 3.0.1 question
    HI,
I am a newbie here. I have an iPhone 3G currently running 3.0.1 with AT&T. Question is if I want to jailbreak using redsn0w, will I need to first do restore in itunes or can I just directly run redsn0w without restoring? If I run redsn0w directly without restoring, will I lose all my current appstore apps, contacts, settings, bookmarks, sms, etc? I've read on some posts where people were experiencing crashing problems when launching apps like cydia and the app store. Also read some problems with "No service". Please advice. THANKS!!!

1 - Download FW 3.0 here iPhone Firmwares download | iPhone Firmware
2 - Restore using latest iTunes. When selecting the FW hold the "shift" key
3 - Use Redsn0w. Download and read (and read again) here: redsn0w
    4 - Jailbreak
    5 - Enjoy

PS. Do not use FW 3.0.1....
    Do hope that helps

You need to use the 3.0 .ipsw file not the 3.01 .ipsw

Thanks for the response. So you're saying that I should restore before running redsn0w then right? Have you tried it without restoring first? Reason I ask is because I want to avoid losing all my settings, contacts, sms, etc. which I will if I restore.
    Thanks again!

Yes you can jailbreak 3.0.1, but when redsnow asks for firmware in step one you have to direct it to the 3.0 firmware. It will then jailbreak your 3.0.1
