Default Will I lose my cydia apps/settings upgrading to 3.0.1
I am new to the jailbreaking scene and I recently Jailbroke my 3G on 3.0 with redsn0w. I was wondering if I upgrade to 3.0.1 and re-jailbreak, will I lose my cydia apps and settings (themes)? I did a search and couldn't find my answer.

search for aptbackup on cydia - never used it but seems to be what you need

HEY - there is NO need to update to 3.0.1
    The changes are really minor
    Do hope that helps

Yea. I understand the 3.0.1 update is just the SMS fix. This question could be applied to any update after a jailbreak.

    Thanks guys.

When you update your jailbroken phone, it's recommended to restore your phone to the new firmware as opposed to simply upgrading it, and setting it up as new- naturally, all evidence of a jailbreak is lost.

I have the same problem but my Cydia crashes whenever I try to start it, 2secs into loading it crashes, how can I save my files in there before I upgrade to 3.0?

^restore and set up as new phone. Don't restore from a back up. this should cure your problem. Also install Cydia only, not Icy and Cydia during the J/B

I have a question please. I have used redsnow to jailbreak my 2G phone. Now it seems that I have installed an app that is totally screwing up my cydia. I have a post on here that explains the problem but the only solution I see is to re-jailbreak. My question is, do I have to go thru the whole restore, set up as new phone process? or can I just re-jailbreak it?

    Welcome to MMi,

^ yes, it is the same as 3.0 just an SMS exploit fix that most think was more hype than harm.

The reason I am asking is because i have tried to jaibreak it following the guidlines that are posted but for some reason when I use redsnow 0.8 at the end of the process the respring hangs and it goes back to DFU. I have used the correct firmware based on the instructions. Any suggestions?

if it "hangs" unplug the USB for about 3 seconds and then plug it back in, this seems to jump start the process.

Thans I will try and hope to be successfull. Thanks ad wil let you know hw it goes.

Does not seem to work. I have a 3G and not GS. Does that make a difference?

It shows Downloading Jailbreal data... and it is showing the respring icon

try using redsn0w 7, use the 3.0 .ipsw

  19. #16
Thanks. Will try 7 ths is the firmware I am using. iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

I MUST be doing something wrong. It is stuck at the downloading Jailbreak data... screen with the re-spring icon going. I unpluged it for 3 seconds but did not make a difference. I have used redsn0w with Firmware - iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw - and no change. I think I am at a loss. Anyone any suggestions?
