Default why i can't read the ipsw extension with the redsn0w ?
    well....
    when i already download the "bl-39" "bl-46" "redsn0w-win_0.7.2" and "iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw", i extract the redsn0w and run the redsn0w.
but, when i want to browse the firmware, i can't find it from the redsn0w....
the firmware look like a ".rar" file
    is that broken ?

please.... help me.... this things makes me crazy......
i really thank for your advise or your guidance
    thanks

it looks like a .rar file means it has the icon of a .rar file or it IS a .rar file?

if it is a rar file -> unrar it via winRar (winrar.com)

if it's an .ipsw (be sure to have file extension turned on if you are on windows) -> download it again, maybe it's broken.

    sorry....
    you're right....
    it's a .rar file.....
when i extract it, none of them can be read by the redsn0w

i'll try your advise, download again.
    thx.

if you have extracted it and it still has a .zip or .rar extension change the extension to .ipsw

Redownload the file and once its on your computer with the rar extension, in properties of that file (right click) change the extension to ipsw.

Here in this first post you say you have the .ipsw fie. That is the one you click on when asked to "browse for firmware"

Dont d/l the 3.0firmware with IE, it automatically downloads as a .zip, use mozilla firefox to D/L the 3.0 restore file, when you click to D/L check the save file box, and uncheck the open with itunes box......

    for blkcadi:
    yeah.... the name is "iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw"
    but it's a .zip file
    that's why i confuse again

    for sazjuco1
    i download it from safari.
i'll try your advise, use firefox.

    THX ALL FOR YOUR ADVISE

btw, an easy way to get the firmware is if itunes ask you if you want to update to 3.0 you just say "download only" or something. then itunes will download the file and you have it on your computer.

in any case, try firefox and download the file from here:
    iClarified - Tutorials - iPhone

search for the tutorial "how to jailbreak your iphone 2g/3g/3gs using redsn0w", depending on what iphone you have. there will be a link to the .ipsw there.

thx for all of your people guidance.... i did what sazcujo1 and it worked. thx all.

    Easier solution:
When you are prompted to pick the ipsw file, type the full file name in, including the .ipsw

That worked for me even though the file wouldn't show when I clicked browse.

will someone help me im locked outta my phone becuase i updated and this whole redsn0w thing DOESN'T WORK the file doesn't show up i need more solutions and what you guys are saying ISN'T WORKING!

    SOLUTION:

I have no idea what you guys are going on about. The solution is VERY simple.

    You have to do this:-

    1. Open My Computer
    2. Goto Tools on top and then goto Folder Options
    3. Goto View then UNCHECK Hide Extensions of Known File Types.
    4. Apply, OK and get out.
    5. Now see the downloaded firmware, it will say .ZIP at the end.
    6. Rename the file and remove the .ZIP from the end and put .IPSW

    PROBLEM SOLVED.

The firmware is downloaded as .ZIP but WE have to RENAME it's extension to .IPSW.

It does not matter what browser you use to download the firmware, the downloaded content is the exact same just the extension is changed.

    Tried and Tested.
    Cheers.

Or you could just download it with Firefox and do nothing to the file extension at all.

Not everyone uses FF, IE still has the dominant slice of the browser industry.

I don't use IE often or at all :/ FF or Chrome ftw

I'd just suggest downloading one of those for future purposes to avoid IE downloading it in the wrong format. So much easier.
