Smile 3.0 upagrade/jailbreak "SIM not supported" solution
    Hi all,

I know a lot of people have faced the unfamous "SIM not supported" iTunes message when upgrading to 3.0. I own an iPhone 2G in a part of the world that is not officially supported for the iPhone.

At first, I upgraded my iPhone via iTunes, but when iTunes tried to connect to the "activation services" of the phone (towards the end of the upgrade process), it gave the "SIM not supported" message, resulting in the annoying "connect to iTunes screen".

This is how I got around it:

    - Put Iphone in DFU mode while connected to the computer
    - Disable the WiFi connection (on the basis that iTunes would not be able to check the SIM card)
    - Shift+click restore(on PC), select the 3.0 firmware
    - Upgraded successfully
    - Then ran redsn0w 7.2

The iPhone was consequently jailbroken and I haven't had any troubles since.

All you do is download from any sites, the 3.0 firmware (for 2G or 3G) and click shift+restore. No need to put in DFU mode. Then, browse to the location of your ipsw file and let it do its thing. Once its done, run redsn0w 0.72 from Dev-Team Blog and let it do its thing.

No need to do all that,
just after restoring it'll bring you to the activate in itunes screen,
then run redsn0w and redsn0w will activate it for you.
