Thread: I got a feeling that TinyUmbrella doesn't do it's SHSH magic in my case...?

  1. #1
    I definitely have a SHSH to upgrade to 4.1, I start TinyUmbrella's TSS Server, prior to launching iTunes (updated to the latest 10.4 version) and trying to restore my 3GS iPhone with a custom 4.1 IPSW (built through Pwnage tool). iPhone itself has 4.0 running on it (might this be a problem?). But after iTunes unpackages IPSW and performs it's pre-restore checks for the firmware (I guess this is where TinyUmbrella must spoof Apple server with it's own) iTunes throws an error 1600. It doesn't even enter restore process I guess.

    Anyone any idea? I sincerely tried to find any info on this forum (two days doing just this , but failed.

    Not sure what it was, but I've re-downloaded original IPSW, re-built custom one, TURNED OFF TinyUmbrella... and it restored..

    Since Apple is currently signing the 4.1 firmware still, there is no need to run TU. I have read this from numerous posts. Just make sure your hosts are pointed to Apple and restore like normal with the custom firmware.

    Strange. How do you know that it still signs it? I've read that it stopped signing 4.3.x something already, so I concluded that it would definitely not sign 4.1... Where's the logic here?

    Several members have confirmed Apple is still signing of 4.1 iOS for some 3G/3GS models.

    To see if you are one of the lucky ones, start TU, go to Advanced, uncheck get-from-Cydia, then Save All SHSH.

    Apple is not signing the 4.1 firmware anymore. However if you try and save SHSH for 4.1 or point your hosts to cydia you may find that cydia is able to provide you with 4.1 SHSH (dont ask, just trust me ). This is only for 3GS though.

    @Simon I was trying to make it through Cydia servers both manually and through TinyUmbrella, but I succeeded only when I turned off TU and removed redirects from /etc/hosts... so... bit confused.

    But you are right TU gave me that 4.1 SHSH, although I'm not sure if I used it. I think - no. No?

    I'm quite a n00b here, now how safe is for me to give you an ECID?

    Not much I can do with it except save your SHSH. Dont post it here just in case (Im not a hacker so dont know exactly what can be done with it but I doubt much). Private message me it so I can confirm what you are saying.

    @Simon. It's Friday July 29, 2011 @ 7AM PDT.
    I successfully retrieved 4.1 SHSH blobs from Apple for 4 iPhones, 2ea 3Gs and 2ea 3GS's.
    Nothing else, just 4.1

    Edit: And 1ea iPod Touch 3G

    Sent it to you Simon, hope this info helps someone

    Edit: BTW, I had "Request SHSH from Cydia" unchecked when I got SHSH for 4.1, 4.3.5 and for 5.0b1, 5.0b2, 5.0b3. Does this mean that I got them directly from Apple?

    Now that I checked that option I got SHSH for 4.2.1 (does it have a sense to upgrade?) in addition to what I got directly.

    Hmm, so it seems they are able to be saved from Apple directly. I just find it hard to believe Apple is doing this. They had stopped at one point. I do know cydia was able to "manufacture" SHSH for firmwares not being saved anymore for 3GS and older devices using a trick of sorts since the SHSH between firmware for these devices are not all that disimilar. Maybe tiny umbrella is doing something similar.

    Question: Has anyone actually been able to restore to 4.1 with hosts pointed towards Apple not using tiny umbrella?

    I believe that's what I just did.

    I agree, it does seem odd. But it's working.

    Yesterday I picked a used 3GS on 4.0.2. True blue AT&T USA. Never jailbroken or unlocked.
    Two jb'ing options: iFaith 4.0.2 or 4.3.5 === Right?

    But whoooollllla .... TU picked up 1 more: 4.1 directly from Apple.
    I jailbroke and unlocked on 4.1 last night. It works

    Maybe after all, Apple has some other reasons to disable downgrade to some IPSW versions, in addition to evil and selfish?..

    @Mes, is 4.1 better then 4.2.1 or 4.3.5?

    No. 4.2.1 is best.

    In my case: an untethered 4.1 is better than a tethered 4.3.4 or 4.3.5. The 'only' available options.
