    Default GeoPedia:Location-aware Wikipedia
    Hi Folks,

    I just rolled out a new app. GeoPedia is an application to access Wikipedia articles related to where you are. I think it is a cool app, let me know if it works for you guys. Notice it requires network and cell signal. It will not work on touchs. The repository is:
    http://mazinger.cs.yale.edu/iphone-apps/index.xml
    and the direct link:

    Hi poetic_folly,

    I don't mind, it is a good idea, I would like that. Thanks.

    SiLeNtKiLLa,

    Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad it works. Anyone tried it outside the US? I wonder if the location services work abroad.

    cheers, Felipe

    Hi,

    I tried it in India. It showed locating and then come up with blank black screen. I had to quite the application with Home key to come back at Springboard.

    Regards,

    Wow, now that is quite awesome. I think this is the first location-aware app for iphone! Nice job!

    Now you just gotta make a version showing nearby restaurants, etc.
    If you like or found helpful anything I have said, please click that nice little Thanks button!

    Working in Germany, if one could choose a specific wiki-localistation (.de in my case), it would be perfect..

    My configuration: 1.1.1 ootb USA/BL 3.9, to 1.1.2, to 1.1.3, to 1.1.4 - 04.04.05_G (with iplus2) on O2 Germany.

    Thanks for this app. It works great here in Sweden.

    There is only one small thing - Our swedish characters are not displayed correctly:

    The last three entries are:

    Lovu00F6n Should be: Lovön
    Hu00E4gersten Should be: Hägersten
    Ru00E5sunda Should be: Råsunda

    So the characters should be:
    u00E5 = å
    u00E4 = ä
    u00F6 = ö

    Thanks again for a great app!

    Thanks all of you who posted feedback. So it seems it works for most people but not for all and I'm not really sure why, I'm still looking into it.

    steelcut:
    DBPedia has data that relates geo coordinates to Wikipedia only in english. There might be a way to relate english articles to other languages but I'm not sure, It would be nice if there was such way.

    Velo:
    There was an issue with unicode characters that I think I fixed. For what I have seen it works, let me know it the problem persists and I'll do further testing.

    cheers, Felipe

    It seems to be working now. Thanks for fixing this

    EDIT: Thought it was working 100% but I found one occasion when the character å is not correct:

    It's no big deal so if you cant correct it it's ok. It's a bit strange because the character å is correct now in other places....

    I can't figure out how to get this application installed. I even put Cydia on my system and it won't appear on the menu.

    Anyone able to give me some pointers?

    Thank you.

    Nevermind, followed suggestions on another thread on how to install his other app and finally got it.

    Any chance you are going to open source this application? I would love to get bus stop listings, restaurants, or other info in it. Google maps in a browser shows bus stops for me, but the iPhone maps program does not (Austin, TX)

    RoundSparrow,
    I will open source the app. I started a google code site
    http://code.google.com/p/geolaunch/
    The code is not there yet but it will be soon.
    Velo,
    Glad it works ... I just had screwed the unicode.
