Thread: Voice Record

    Default Voice Record
Erica from tuaw is on an app-creation spree. She released an iPhone-native app that allows you to record voice memos. The current version features a simple GUI that starts recording on launch, 'stop' and 'save' buttons. It saves to AMR format.

Simply download, put into iPhone's Applications folder, chmod the internal executable to +x, and reboot.

    EDIT: New Version available: http://www.tuaw.com/2007/08/06/iphon...cording-audio/

iPhone applications come as a .app file, which is actually a folder. The actual executable binary is stored inside the .app folder. For example, you would download VRecord.app from the website and install that into the iPhone. However, you need to set the binary file that's inside VRecord.app as an executable file. If you don't know how to do this on the iPhone, read the "Get Connected" guides: http://www.modmyi.com/wiki

The newly released iPHUC compiles and runs with PPC macs. You'll also need to build Jailbreak, I believe. With iPHUC, you'll need to specify the full path for local files, like /Users/username/Desktop/blah for accessing the blah file/folder on your desktop.

You need to chmod +x the file 'vrecord':
ssh into the iPhone and type in this command: /bin/chmod +x /Applications/VRecord.app/vrecord

    Now it should work.

By the way, Erica posted a new version of VRecord, which you can download here: http://www.gofilego.com/?fileid=77a2...532790aeaeccfd

How do you remove an app if you no longer want it. iphoneinterface/browser/and SSH all say permission denied.

    -David

Got it, I just needed to SSH rm into /bin and chmod to 555
