I used WinSCP and when I copy it I just changed the permission to rwxr-xr-x
    OR
If you want you could copy it over with no permissions and when its on ur phone you right click the MACalc application folder and hit properties or options something like and change the octal code to 0755.

Hope that settles all your problems

You do have a bunch of b_xxx.png files and a display.png file in

    MACalc.app directory don't you?

Can you start MACalc from a shell and post the last message displayed on the shell?
    You should see something like:
    CalculatorApp applicationDidFinishLaunching
    MasterView initWithFrame
    FloatView initWithFrame
    IntegerView initWithFrame
    ConfigView initWithFrame
    MasterView canHandleSwipes
Yes, I do have a whole bunch of .png's in the directory. Here's the list:

    Default.png b_dbrown_d.png b_grey_d.png b_purple_d.png dot_r.png
    Info.plist b_dgrey.png b_lblue.png b_red.png error.aiff*
    MACalc* b_dgrey_d.png b_lblue_d.png b_red_big.png icon.png*
    b_black.png b_dyellow.png b_lbrown.png b_red_big_d.png vibrator*
    b_black_big.png b_dyellow_d.png b_lbrown_d.png b_red_d.png
    b_blue.png b_green.png b_orange.png click.aiff*
    b_blue_d.png b_green_d.png b_orange_d.png display.png
    b_dbrown.png b_grey.png b_purple.png dot_l.png

And here's the log from launching MACalc from the shell:

    # ./MACalc
    2007-12-06 00:13:11.590 MACalc[955:d03] main 1
    2007-12-06 00:13:11.705 MACalc[955:d03] CalculatorApp applicationDidFinishLaunching
    2007-12-06 00:13:11.714 MACalc[955:d03] >clear
    2007-12-06 00:13:11.716 MACalc[955:d03] <clear
    2007-12-06 00:13:11.718 MACalc[955:d03] >clear
    2007-12-06 00:13:11.720 MACalc[955:d03] <clear
    2007-12-06 00:13:11.728 MACalc[955:d03] MasterView initWithFrame
    2007-12-06 00:13:11.742 MACalc[955:d03] FloatView initWithFrame 0
    zsh: bus error ./MACalc

Any help will be very appreciated indeed!

What firmware do you have installed?
I've never tested with fw 1.0.2 or <

My phone runs 1.1.1 and I have several friends with 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 and MACalc runs just fine.

At the point where MACalc crashes in your case I am not doing anything extraordinary. Just creating fonts (that I know exists on 1.1.1 and 1.1.2), loading images and buttons.

Speaking of fonts. Would it be possible to not use Verdana and use Arial or Helvetica instead?

  6. #66
Badass! Thanks a ton man, I really like this app. Never used RPN before, ten minutes into my physics homework with this, and I will never go back!

I am working on a new version (slowly but surely).
In fact it is a complete rewrite to make MACalc more flexible.

In the current version a lot of stuff is hardcoded.
With the current version, my goal was to have something useful quickly.

The goal for the new version is to make it easier for me to add more functions and easier for guys like you to develop skins.
The new version will read a skin definition file that will include fonts, font size, colors (for display text, button text ....) button size and ...

Each skin will be placed on a separate directory and there will be a skin selection view to allow the user to select and switch skins.

Sounds great. Are we talking macros as well

Ah ha! My iphone is using thai fonts. could that interfere? The fonts use the special characters and don't touch regular A-Za-z0-9 or other frequently used symbols at all.

    Default scientific notation?
Okay, so I've never used an RPN calculator and was wondering how to put it so the answers show up in scientific notation such as 1.0x10^5 5 being the exponent.
or like 1.0e5 ??? is there anyway to do that because mine just keeps showing up like this: 1,555,555,555,555... so I can't even see how many decimal places it has...let me know! Thanks!

That has nothing to do with the calculator being RPN or not.

I just didn't implement scientific notation in the current version.

Wait for the next version. It will be there.

It should not interfere as long as the original fonts have not been removed.

Specifically I am using the following fonts:
    TrebuchetMS
    TrebuchetMSBold
    VerdanaBoldItalic

I have the same problem here. Please fix it. I can't wait to use your wonderful app.

    Thanks

Hmmm... The thai fonts I installed definitely modified the above fonts. I will try the original fonts and let you know whether MACalc is still able to run.

Edit1: Ok. I replaced the above fonts with the original fonts that came with 1.1.1 firmware and now MACalc works. I tried the thai fonts and MACalc crashes. Let me find out further what the thai font pack modified that caused the problem.

Im having a problem installing the app. With WinSSH i copy the file over but what do i do next? I dont understand what to do with permissions. The octal code is set to 0755. I can open the app on my iphone but the buttons don't do anything, all i see the calulator.

  15. #75
Hey guys, I found out why it wasn't working! Woo Hoo!

After you're in the Applications folder of your iPod Touch and you right-click on the MACalc.app and select Properties. When this tab is up, make sure you check the box that says "Set group, owner and permissions recursively".

After I did that it worked like a charm on my PC!

  16. #76
    Default yup
superfirst got it...I was just about to sugest that because when i check my properties it was checked so yea it should work after u check that box

  17. #77
I put the folder back in and checked the box but it still wont work. The app opens on my iphone but it wont do anything and the phone freezes up for about 15 seconds before going back to the icon list. I see the calc but the buttons dont work or anything. What could be wrong?

  18. #78
Is there a repository to get this app with the Installer?

  19. #79
I have now added MACalc with my skin to the AlohaSoft source. See my sig below in case you don't about that source.
    Come visit AlohaSoft

Ha, I was planning on doing that, but the developer never got back to me.

    Love your skin for it.
