Thread: iVirusScan - product of McAfee

There already has been malicious code out there, but this is just stupid (both in the sense of the nessecity of it, and its' alleged vendor)
And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream!

McAfee would never release an app for a jailbroken phone...

Its hidden deep in their blog, let me go find it again. McAfee was the first to report about the orginal 113 prep virus so it makes since that they would release it. All it currently does is scan all the files on the iphone/(ipod?) for that and other similar files. I dont believe that it slows down my phone at all. But if I do ever have any problems I will tell you.

I am currently in line at their customer support chat.

wow! so much windows-bashing? actually considering the ridiculous amount of money a mac costs, i wud rather have a windows, a decent anti-virus software and excercise logic. being a windows user myself, i have never had serious trouble with viruses so far.

the reason behind so few viruses infecting macs r bcos of the percentage of its users. it wud be a waste of time & effort for a virus programmer to make something for macs at present.

anyways, regarding this software....i wud take it cautiously and skeptically. interface itself doesnt look very polished. and there arent real threats as yet affecting iphones.

I contacted McAfee customer service, and they told me it was real and in development. Its main use to is to find the few known iPhone viruses. So it's not a fake! I spent an hour on hold to find this out. And also I redid the domain search:

Now mcafee is giving me the runaround.

    My Online Customer Service Chat:
Kevin Tucker: Matthew, McAfee is not providing software for I phones but generally you can get the software for mobile phones.
Kevin Tucker: I am now going to push you a link that will open a web page on your computer.
    Kevin Tucker: hXXp://us.mcafee.com/en-us/global/html/products/triple_play/direct.asp
Kevin Tucker: Please use that link to purchase the software for moblie phone and further assistance you can contact our Sales Department.
Customer: But how can it be using your server? It's address is ipkg.mcafeemobile.com
    Customer: Is it a scam?
Customer: Are you still there Kevin?
Kevin Tucker: It's not scam however I will help you to contact Sales.
Kevin Tucker: May I know the country in which you are located?
    Customer: United States
Kevin Tucker: Please contact our Sales Department at 1-866-622-3911 to place the order.
Customer: I dont want to order, I just want to know if "iVirusScan from McAfee" is real
Kevin Tucker: Generally we do offer software for mobile phones, but in your case you need to contact Sales.

Last night when I called them they said they were developing virus scanning software for mobile phones (including iPhone) Sorry guys if it does turn out fake, but current evidence shows different. (Using M's server)

McAfee also has an app called "Stinger Mobile" I have no clue what stinger is, since I have never even heard of it. I will warn you that I did (last week) install iVirusScan, Stinger Mobile, and UNINSTALLED HWpen and I got the Spinning Wheel of Death. But I believe it was the uninstaltion of HW that caused it.

You guys are putting a lot of time and effort trying to find out if this is legit or not. Just wait for the App Store to open and see what they have to offer. If antivirus software is legit and needed, it will be there.

  16. #34
    This is not legit.

maybe it just connects to mcafee's server to dl their virus definitions? doesnt mean that mcafee made this app or didnt.

The app is hosted on their site, not just the definitions. So someone wouldnt had to hack into it and post the app. Not likely, and I am tired of defending a real product!

I am only trying to prove that it does not brick you device. I could care less if a virus ruins their device. (I care about the people who believe me though)

All I know for sure that it does detect (Atleast my test) virus. So it maybe made by someone unknown that uses mcafee's site, but I swear to god that it did work. So from now on I could careless if McAfee confirms it, I just know it works. I guarantee it did not harm my phone (Yet )

PS I would like to say that I have never meant to be rude, so if it seems like it I apologize.
