To change a mp3 file to AAC you don't have to import and change the format during the import process. All you have to do is...

    - Select/highlight the track or tracks you want to convert to AAC in iTunes
    - Click on "Advanced" in the menubar.
    - Scroll down and select "Convert Selection to AAC"

iTunes will convert your mp3 and you will end up with 2 files of the same track; 1 that is AAC and 1 that is MP3. I usually delete the mp3 file(s) so as to not take up unnecessary space and have duplicates of the same track/song. Hope this helps you out.

    cheers,
