There are a number of sources you can get free eBooks from, the biggest, and maybe the best is the Gutenberg Project

You can't, you have to download and transfer to phone.

I suggest manybooks.net, they have an iPhone eBook format suitable for Books.app, but you must still download on a desktop.

aint workin on mine just shows up as all the text (not the xml formatting, just text) w/o links.

1.2 w/o safari download mod (is there anything else that could be interfering?)

edit - i'm such a blockhead, i didn't realize this was an installer source. nice books! thanks

Has anyone else also tried any of the books this guy's got available? Can we consider him a trusted source?

    Edit: I found it!!! It's http://drinkmalk.com/books/index.xml

editedit: I'd consider him a trusted source, i have had no problem with any of the books, i've downloaded and read several books off his source, all seem healthy

I love that source. I hope it gets updated frequently. I'm about to finish reading The Exorcist, next will be 'Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep' the book that inspired the movie 'Bladerunner'

Just upload EVERY .txt file and it will work....

  20. #16
Why would you need to bother with repository source at all? Use either iPhoneBrowser/WinSCP/TouchCopy/... to transfer books from your computer to iPhone or download books directly from websites using Safari Download plug-in.

I keep getting a Main script execution failed message whenever i try and install some1guy's eBooks >_< any ideas on how to fix it? my other apps install fine

  22. #18
Oh man, some1guy is going to keep me busy for a while. great ebook collection.

  23. #19
I installed quite a few ebooks...now when I open the ebook app there are no ebooks listed...what's up?

  24. #20
I had to register to view this so I'll save you the trouble, its basically a 1.1.4 fix.

    ------------------------

HOW TO GET MY SOURCE TO WORK WITH FIRMWARE 1.1.4

Ok, I took the plunge and upgrade from 1.1.2 to 1.1.4, and have verified that before the following fix, no books were displayed. After the following fix, books were displayed.

Many Thanks to Khaos139 for this fix! Rep him up if you can (and me too )

Add the following source to your installer:

    http://khaos139.890m.com/repo.xml

Uninstall: Any Books that are from my source (note: while in all actuality these books aren't on your IPod, your installer.app thinks that they are. This will allow you to download the books for real, for reals later on)

Install: "Create Library And Media Symlinks" (located in the Khaos139 Category) EDIT: If you receive a "Main Script Execution" error, this is expected and this fix SHOULD still work

Hit The Home Button And Let It Respring

    Restart Your iPhone/iPod Touch

Download thy books to thine heart's content (for real, for reals)
    -------------------------------------------------------------

    That worked for me,
    Cheers
