How about a native chess app with crafty (free chess engine) engine, able to read .pgn files downloadable with installer? That would be something. Should not be to difficult to cook together for a programmer...

so if someone made the native app, can they post it here??

Ok. I installed WebDumper for my Windows box and downloaded the site. I also installed apache on my 1.1.2 iPhone. Two things I don't understand, 1) Apache isn't showing up. Is it supposed to? 2) I don't see the chess files at all on the iPhone either. They are there via a file transfer with iPhone Browser.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance,
    dbldare

No, you can't see apache, its a webserver. You can only turn it on or off via UIctl or Netservices.app

You need to copy the files you get from the website to /Library/Webserver/Documents and then access the primary page (usually index.html) as you normally would.

It would be nice to have Bob Hyatt's program on the iPhone in some form. I remember the days <sighing wistfully> of the likes of Hyatt's Cray Blitz going up against other chess powerhouses of the time such as Belle and
    Nuchess.

    Eurisko,

Thanks for the reply! I am now able to see it (index.html) in the documents folder, but I can't execute it. It gives me a "permissions" page. BTW, I'm using Squid to find it on my phone.

    Thanks again,
    dbldare

Make sure to make the Documents folder and everything in it has permissions set to 755.
