Default Does tethering through MyWi slow down the data transfer speed a lot?
I'm trying the MyWi 4 trial on my iPhone 3G and have tethered my iPad to it via wi-fi.

If I run on my iPhone 3G I get 1580 kbps down and 228 kbps up.

If I run the same test on my tethered iPad I get just 465 kbps down.

Does the tethering slow down the throughput speed that much?

Is it because my iPhone 3G is slow or is an issue inherent with MyWi?

p.s. I guess results vary. I just ran speedtest again on my iPad and got a more respectable 828 kbps download.

you have to take into account packet losses since its wifi. Its normal for it to decrease

Or maybe the processor in the 3G is too slow to transfer the data that fast.

Just did the test with my iPhone 4 and got 2.2Mb direct and exactly the same on the iPad tethering through mywi. My theory is correct... The iPhone 3G blows.

douglner: try usb - and see if it makes a difference. I'm guessing most of it is just the carrier's network. The wifi connection can handle much faster speeds.
