Thread: activating iphone 4 but still use old phone?

    Default activating iphone 4 but still use old phone?
    So i have a 3gs and an iphone 4 and was curious if when i activated the iphone 4 would i still be able to use the 3gs as an ipod touch .I know i wont be able to use it as a phone or text on it . But I have a few things on it i would like to be able to keep using (GPS as an example) .

    You need to have the sim in. Then you can do w.e. Gps wont work without a signal, duh.

    Yes, you can still use your 3GS, of course. The only thing you won't be able to do is make calls, text, or anything that requires your data plan. If you have wifi, then everything should work fine (except calls of course)

    How wrong you are. Although aGPS uses the cells for initial fix, GPS does not use the mobile network at all and does not need a SIM in the phone. The signal it uses comes from the GPS satellites and is picked up by the GPS receiver in the phone.

    I'm not sure why this thread is in the 'news' section though.

    ^^ he is right. i used my 3g for the gps all the time without having a sim in it. to answer the OP'S question. yes.
