Independence requires you to downgrade to 1.0.2. I could not get it to work on a 1.1.2 OTB phone. What I did was

    1. Download the 1.1.1 firmware
    2. Put you phone into restore mode by holding the sleep and home button
    3. Itunes will give you a message that says it detects an iphone in restore mode
    4. Hold the option key and click restore
    5. In the file window select the 1.1.1 firmware that you downloaded (also you need to make sure that safari did not open the firmware zip file. Check you preferences in safari and make sure the open safe files option is not checked.
    6. The iphone will start to restore and when it is done it will give you a 1015 error message. Dont worry about it, its expected.
    7. Once you get the error message close itunes and open independence and it will take your phone out of restore mode.
    8. After that you should be good to go.
