Unhappy Mac won't boot past grey screen, HELP!! :(
Hi, right here it is, i was on my mac the other day and plugged in a hdd from another mac to recover the stuff for him as he broke the screen on his mbp, plugged it in via external hdd. Right everything was ok for about a minute and half then it locked up by macbook and i had to restart it via the on/off button. Now my mac will only go to the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning circle. I've tried resetting the PRAM and that didn't help and i've tried plugging in a usb which has SL on it and it won't reconize it, the only thing it will reconize why i hold the Option key when turning on the macbook is EFI boot with a HDD above it.
Can anyone shed some light on to why i can't load my mac?
    I need my Macbook back

    Thanks, Greg.

I would do exactly what I told someone else out here just a few min ago. First boot from an installer CD and repair disk permissions in Disk Utility. If you can't see the disk and can't repair the permissions then boot from a Disk Warrior CD <---(cost money) and rebuild the directory file. If you still cant get the machine to boot then its time to start looking into drive recovery software......or if you don't care about anything on the drive reformat it. This is a good reason to have a time machine backup so that in the future if this happens again you just erase the drive install the OS and restore from Time Machine Backup.

    Hope this helped you out.

Borrowed DiskWarrior off of a buddy (4.2) and i pressed the 'Option Key' on start-up, clicked on it, it just span the disk up for about 2minutes at the grey screen and then after the 2minutes it came up with a circle with line through where the Apple Logo was and with the spinning 'loading' circle at the bottom and does no more than that. Really annoying me now as i need my mac back.
Also i have found my old 10.5 Leopard disc but my mac is running 10.6 Snow Leopard, would i be able to still use the 10.5 Leopard disc?

    Thanks, Greg.

Probably. Just install Leopard and then upgrade to Snow Leopard. If you found that, install Snow Leopard again.

Note: Booting from a installation disc takes a very long time.
