Default Apple Now Accepting Donations Via Digital Stores to Help With Nepal Earthquake Relief

The Eastern country of Nepal was struck by a massive 7.8 magnitude Earthquake this weekend that terrorized the locals and left behind hundreds of casualties along with many missing victims.

Apple is doing something about it by allowing its consumers to make donations directly through its digital content stores, such as the App Store and iTunes Store, that will go directly towards the American Red Cross Nepal earthquake relief efforts, as Tim Cook announced on Twitter Sunday afternoon:

When you tap on the button from the App Store or iTunes Store, this is the interface that you are brought to:

Consumers can choose a donation amount of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, or $200. Apple notes that 100% of the money donated goes to the Red Cross and that the company doesn't keep any of it.

Apple is known for doing these kinds of things when natural disasters occur around the world in order to try and spur aid from people who would otherwise have no idea how to help. It opens doors for people to truly take part in kind-hearted relief efforts to help find missing people, provide supplies to needy families, and save lives.

Update: Apple's Phil Schiller is also passing the word along on Twitter:

I always wonder how much of the money you donate to help someone actually gets to them and isn't consumed in agency mismanagement. I don't know that the American Red Cross is a reliable agency to donate money to. They are accused of quite a bit of mismanagement of funds when trying to help victims in America, let alone another country.

Charity Navigator Lets you look up charities to see how much money goes to different aspects. They even have a list of the best charities to help in Nepal.

If you ever want to donate, donate directly to the Charity and like Spiderman said, make sure they are reputable. Most companies don't do something for nothing.
