Default Humans Come to the Google Play App Review Process

Complaints that Google's Play store is too full of inferior or spammy apps has led to a major decision by Google -- one that sees the Android originator following Apple's very human example.

According to an announcement from Google on Tuesday morning, humans are now being used to review app submissions.

"This new process involves a team of experts who are responsible for identifying violations of our developer policies earlier in the app lifecycle," the announcement reads. "We value the rapid innovation and iteration that is unique to Google Play, and will continue to help developers get their products to market within a matter of hours after submission, rather than days or weeks. In fact, there has been no noticeable change for developers during the rollout."

In other words, the changes have already been made and Google is only telling developers now as a way to prove that there's been no negative fallout to the review process from the change.

Nonetheless, MMi has learned that on Wednesday morning, NativeMobile will publish the findings of a short app developer survey which largely indicates that developers are not in favor of humans replacing technology to review and approve/reject apps for the Play store.
