Default Swedish Supercar Manufacturer, Koenigsegg, to Offer CarPlay Support

The Swidish supercar maker, Koenigsegg, which for those of you who don’t know sell some of the most expensive cars on Earth, has recently joined the list of auto manufacturers that will be offering Apple’s CarPlay standard via the Regera, a new car unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. This particular vehicle is the company’s first attempt at a hybrid.

The vehicle, which is primarily powered by a 5 liter V8 gas engine rated at 1,085 horsepower, three electric motors which provide an additional 697 bhp, giving the car a total horsepower rating of 1,782 bhp. These numbers make the car the most powerful production car as of today, allowing it to go from 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds and 0 to 250 in less than 20 seconds. As of right now, the company is only planning to build 80 units over the next five to six years charging a base cost of $1.89 million per car (yes you read that right).

Among the options that the car manufacturer will be offering will be CarPlay support. This can be seen on the Koenigsegg website and also seen in the interior photos of the Regera. One more thing to keep in mind is that the vehicle doesn’t seem to support Android Auto which is Google’s competing platform.

Up until now, CarPlay hasn’t achieved much traction as it has only appeared in a few production vehicles. Furthermore, one of the most important backers, Toyota, also recently stated that it plans to stick to its own dashboard interface for the foreseeable future. That being said more auto manufacturers do seem to be offering it as part of their add-ons so we’re likely to see CarPlay becoming increasingly popular over time. We’ll have to wait and see though.

Wow, someone actually made a truly awesome hybrid if those specs are as good in practice as they are on paper. I'd like to see this baby go head to head with an Agera R.
