On Friday, word came to light that Apple remains the investment darling of the world's top institutional investors.

Of all the stocks institutional investors loved last quarter, Apple was the top pick without question.

"Apple Inc. is the undisputed king," Benzinga reported Friday, producing an aggregate list of 10 stocks hedge funds and other investment firms flocked to last quarter. "The tech giant is in the top 10 holdings of 1,130 institutional investors, including Icahn Capital, The Vanguard Group, State Street, FMR and Fisher Asset Management."

Incredibly, a very large portion of Apple stock is controlled by very dew hands. According to the most recent data available, approximately half of all shares of AAPL are retained by just a dozen funds, the largest of which is The Vanguard Group, which has $37 billion invested in Apple.
