Default Apple Rumored to Add Touch ID to the Retina MacBook Air and its Peripherals

Apple may reportedly be looking to plan an expansion of its Touch ID fingerprint authentication technology to its MacBook lineup and peripherals ahead of a larger Apple Pay rollout. The upcoming 12-inch MacBook Air is believed to include a high-res Retina display and vastly reduced I/O along with potentially sporting a Touch ID sensor placed above its trackpad. Furthermore, the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad may be updated to include the biometric functionality as well.

Such a move also foreshadows the Cupertino California company potentially making Apple Pay available for payments on the web. As of right now, Apple Pay can only be used for in-store transactions via NFC or as part of the checkout process for iOS apps. With the addition of the technology being included in the MacBook lineup, it could open up access to a whole new market.

Furthermore, expanding into the web market puts Apple Pay directly in competition with providers such as PayPal and Amazon Payments. PayPal, which is currently an eBay subsidiary, is preparing to separate from the online auction giant in part to streamline its operations against Apple and Google in the digital wallet industry.

We’ll have to wait and see how much of the info turns out to be true as AppleCorner seems to have an on/off record when it comes to providing accurate information.
