When Apple bought Beats for $3 billion last year, it marked the biggest acquisition in Apple history. Ever since then, Apple’s plans involved going up against competitors Pandora and Spotify with its Beats Music subscription streaming service. According to Billboard, Apple wants “to be the music business, not compete with Spotify.” Apparently, the Cupertino-based company is looking to lower its $9.99 monthly price.

Digital music sales dropped 9% for Apple last year, but streaming increased by 54%. This is probably why the company is moving away from digital music downloads and trying to evolve its streaming service. It has been rumored that Apple is looking to remove ‘duplicate and deceptive’ versions of songs from the iTunes Store.

Billboard noted that Apple’s revamped music streaming service will launch sometime in the spring of this year. The upcoming music streaming service is said to have new features, functionality, and technology inspired from Beats Music. We guess we will have to wait a few more months before knowing what the new service will entail.
