Default FCC Wants Faster Broadband Deployment

On Thursday, the FCC made its position clear -- broadband deployment in the United States (especially in rural areas) just isn't good enough.

Specifically, the agency announced today, broadband deployment isn't keeping pace with what the FCC calls "today’s advanced, high-quality voice, data, graphics and video offerings."

This assessment follows the completion of the 2015 Broadband Progress Report adopted this week by the Federal Communications Commission.

"Reflecting advances in technology, market offerings by broadband providers and consumer demand, the FCC updated its broadband benchmark speeds to 25 megabits per second (Mbps) for downloads and 3 Mbps for uploads," the FCC says. "The 4 Mbps/1 Mbps standard set in 2010 is dated and inadequate for evaluating whether advanced broadband is being deployed to all Americans in a timely way, the FCC found."

All told, the report finds that even though there has been tangible progress in broadband deployment, "these advances are not occurring broadly enough or quickly enough."

My office is stuck with DSL, because the only other option is T1 with 3Mbps up and down for $700/month...
Be glad you have a cable choice at $70~80/month
