In each of the last four years, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has predicted the launch of Apple's long-awaited connected HDTV within the coming year.

Obviously, those predictions haven't panned out. But a new report expected out this week indicates that Apple TV is still coming... just likely not before 2016.

Randy Dahlke of NativeMobile tells MMi that sources close to Apple say the HDTV was effectively put on hold to allow Apple to methodically concentrate on one new product category at a time. For 2015, all focus is on wearables as Apple rolls out Apple Watch. But 2016? It will be the TV, Dahlke says.

"We'll be hearing more about the Apple HDTV as the year progresses," Dahlke says. "But the actual product won't be here until at least 2016. We're even hearing Apple may even have to shake up its familiar retail store layout and design to accommodate the large model TV displays."

Stay tuned...
