Default iTunes Helps Sony Make Online Sales History with 'The Interview'

As MMi reported Sunday, Sony's highly controversial film "The Interview," was finally released for rent or purchase on iTunes yesterday afternoon.

And in virtually no time at all, the exposure and accessibility afforded by iTunes helped Sony log a new online sales milestone. As of this writing, “The Interview” -- which has reportedly raked in north of $15 million since Christmas Eve -- has become Sony's all time best-selling online film.

Sony, of course, is appreciative of Apple's willingness to make the comedy available on iTunes especially since Apple reportedly declined an initial offer to be the exclusive online carrier of the film for its online rollout. But Apple's eventual participation in the distribution process helped nonetheless.

All told, Apple wasn't the biggest driver of online sales for "The Interview" (which is understandable since the film hasn't even been on iTunes for a full 24 hours yet). Of the two million downloads and rentals logged so far (a source close to Sony tells Re/Code today), the “vast majority” of this online sales revenue has come from Google’s YouTube and Play stores.

Some of really need to get off Apple nuts. YouTube and the Play Store aka Google accounted for majority of The Interview $15 million . Apple just started streaming yesterday when the $15 million grossed was announced for the holiday

What knuckle head at apple couldn't make the big decision initially? Why pass on something with so much hype and such a unique event?

Perhaps you should actually read the article before being condescending towards the readers of this site. The article specifically says
