Default Apple Scores a 100% on Corporate Equality Index for 13th Year in a Row

The Human Rights Campaign recently published its annual Corporate Equality Index rankings rating American workplaces on LGBT equality. The results pointed towards Apple earning a score of 100%, achieving a perfect ranking for the 13th straight year in a row.

Overall, 14 of the top 20 Fortune-ranked companies received a ranking of 100% from the Human Rights Campaign. This means Apple was put into the mix with companies such as Chevron Corp., General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co., AT&T, Hewlett-Packard, IBM among a few others. The ratings were all based on submitted surveys on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality policies, which a record of 306 Fortune 500 companies participated in this year.

Among the total list of 781 participants, 366 companies ended up earning a perfect 100% score, earning the distinction of “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality.” Just 10 years ago, only 13% of participating businesses achieved a score of 100%.

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently took to Twitter to spotlight the company’s 100% score on the index noting that it was the 13th time in a row that such a score was achieved. He also added that “Inclusion inspires innovation.” The company even took to its own internal steps to improve accountability and diversity. Just earlier this year, the company published a detailed report on the diversity of its workforce, revealing that its US-based employees are overwhelmingly male and white, a breakdown which Cook said needs to be improved. We’ll have to wait and see how Cook plans to change this going forward.

Isn't that very statement discrimination though? "Sorry, we can't hire you, we have too many white guys already."
