Default Google Releases Chrome 39 which touts 64-Bt Support

Google recently launched Chrome 39, which is the first stable version of its Web browser that will offer 64-bit support for Apple’s OS X operating system. Chrome 39, which is specifically designated as Chrome 39.0.2171.65 promises faster startup times and better memory management features along with the 64-bit support for the OS X platform.

With this update, Google appears to be dropping 32-bit support altogether which means that owners of older Intel-based Macs will be stuck using Chrome 38.The folks over at Computerworld, Apple began switching to Intel’s 64-bit architecture in 2006 but didn’t finish until August 2007.

For those of you who didn’t know, Apple’s iMac line was one of the first to complete the transition to 64-bit Intel in September 2006, with the MacBook Pro following in October and the MacBook in November of the same year. The Mac mini ended up swapping in August 2007 while the MacBook Air series has always featured a 64-bit chip. If your Apple product doesn’t have a 64-bit chip, it may be time to start considering the move to one as this move indicates likely the first of many software updates that drops 32-bit support for the OS X platform.

Along with the 64-bit capabilities that Chrome 39 touts, it also addressed 42 security vulnerabilities which were previously identified. Those of you on Mac OS X 10.6 or higher can download Chrome 39 for free via Google’s website.

Chrome 39.0.2171.65, actually. Looks more like an IP address than a Chrome update
