Although Staples first announced plans to support Apple Pay last month, only today has word come that the mobile payments platform has been comprehensively rolled out across the retailer's more than 1,400 stores nationwide.

Staples points to the "security and privacy" afforded by Apple Pay as the reason why the office supply juggernaut has rolled out the platform so quickly.

“We’re excited about the capabilities that Apple Pay offers our customers,” said Faisal Masud, executive vice president of global e-commerce at Staples. “Innovations like these will help customers quickly find and pay for the products they need to make more happen. Apple Pay is the key feature of our updated iPhone app, and is another example of how we’re making it easier for consumers and small businesses to shop and check-out whenever and however they want.”

All told, Staples is just the latest in a long series of retailers and restaurants -- spanning McDonalds and Radio Shack to Walgreens and Subway -- to rush introduction of Apple Pay to their respective customer bases.
