Default Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre Launch New School at University of Southern California

The Wall Street Journal recently sat down and had an interview with Beats co-founders Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. The two have launched a new undergraduate academy called the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and Business of Innovation at the University of Southern California. The dup gifted $70 million dollars to the university last year and the first students were enrolled into the program this past August. Apparently, the school focuses on giving young people preparation into working in businesses that have a crossover between liberal arts and technology. According to Iovine and Young,

We wanted to build a school that we feel is what the entertainment industry needs right now. There’s a new kid in town, and he’s brought up on an iPad from one and a half years old. But the problem with some of the companies up north [in Silicon Valley] is that they really are culturally inept. I’ve been shocked at the different species in Northern and Southern California—we don’t even speak the same language. The kid who’s going to have an advantage in the entertainment industry today is the kid who speaks both languages: technology and liberal arts. That’s what this school is about.
The goal behind the program according to Iovine is to “find kids who can work at Beats or at Apple". They are also looking to help combine those who create art, to also allocate it According to The Wall Street Journal:

I think what you’re seeing more and more are companies that are designed to do multiple things,” Iovine says. “If you look at the Beats model, there’s software and hardware. Look at what Amazon is doing; look at what Google’s trying to do. It’s technology and content in one.
Apple acquired Beats earlier in the year and co-founders Iovine and Young are a part of Apple’s board. However, it is still unclear as to what role the two currently play at the Cupertino-based company. One thing we do know is that Apple is making music a big part of their company with an expected revamped Beats Music sometime early next year.
