Default Recent Profile of Ginni Rometty Provides More Insight into Apple and IBM Partnership

A recent profile of IBM chief Ginni Rometty shed some light on the process that led to Apple and IBM’s enterprise partnership. Apparently the companies were in negotiations for roughly eight months before the deal was made public with input from several divisions and business areas. IBM global business executive Bridget van Kralingen said the following regarding the matter:

We had tons of meetings, and the good thing about it was the meetings were pretty broad-based—our engineering teams, their engineering teams, our industry leaders, their marketing and developers—as they thought through with us how we were thinking about various apps.
Rometty apparently sees the partnership with Apple as one that will play a big role when it comes to reinventing IBM. As of right now, IBM is home to roughly 431,000 employees in 170 countries around the world and appears to be facing several competitive threats from various rivals that are proving to be more nimble than meets the eye. She continued by telling the publication the following:

Most mobile devices are [used for] 60% email. That's why when we did this Apple partnership, we said we could reimagine work. These devices can do way more.
IBM and Apple appear to already be working with “several large customers” to co-develop iOS apps for the enterprise segment. The customers continue to remain nameless even though they are likely to represent big names in the world’s enterprises. For those of you who didn’t know, IBM has roots in roughly 90% of the world’s banks and 80% of the world’s airlines according to Fortune. As a whole, IBM is thought to touch base with roughly 70% of all enterprise data in one form or another.

It’s interesting to see more information being revealed about the Apple and IBM enterprise partnership. We’ll have to wait and see what the partnership brings to fruition and what effects it has on the industry when both of the tech giants start to roll out the developed iOS apps.

    That'd be a cool partnership.
