Default XiaoMi's VP Hugo Barra Claims Products Are Coincidentally Close to Apple Devices

According to The Verge, former Google executive and current XiaoMi’s global vice president Hugo Barra, did an interview and stated that their products are not copies of Apple devices. Barra stated:

Allegations of it copying Apple are “sweeping sensationalist statements because they have nothing better to talk about.
To start things off, although XiaoMi’s mobile device does not look all that much like the iPhone, it is called the Mi Phone. We can give them the benefit of the doubt and just say it was a coincidence. However, their upcoming tablet, will be called the Mi Pad and from the pictures, it looks quite similar to Apple’s iPad. You can view the photos below:

Barra however noted it to be a coincidence once again by saying:

If you have two similarly skilled designers, it makes sense that they would reach the same conclusion. It doesn’t matter if somebody else has reached the same conclusion.
Even the marketing of the Mi Pad with the spec boxes, just look way too similar or “coincidental” to long-time Apple products.

Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, wore a t-shirt when introducing the company’s new wrist wearable, the Mi Band recently. A tweeted photo by Sascha Pallenberg showed how Lei Jun was originally going to launch the wearable device. He was apparently going to make a smaller announcement and then hype it up by putting “one more thing…” on the screen at the end to announce the device.

What are your thoughts? Do you find this to be a simple coincidence or flat out copying?

Blatant, shameful, outright copying - no question there. It looks like something I'd expect from China.

Copying? Copyright infringement is more like it.

I really don't get it. Is Apple the only company allowed to make rectangular devices with rounded corners, that have a with a touch screen and black bezel? This seems to be getting so ridiculous.

Also, Apple doesn't make tablets with colored backings. iPads have always had white, black, or silver backings. Apple has only had colored face covers for their tablets, which is not the same thing.

So, can someone please explain what aspect is actually being infringed upon? Other companies also make tablets. Many having black as an option for bezel color any many have rounded corners. In fact this basic design actually mimics a lot of monitors and televisions I've seen over the years (save for the colored backing.) So this design choice is not something original to Apple, but rather something they borrowed from other objects that have a screen.
