Default Apple Secures Patent for 'iTime' Smartwatch Technology

Providing what can only be described as the most comprehensive insight we've ever gained into Apple's fascination with smartwatch technology and capabilities, new data made available through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office paints an inspiring picture of what may be headed our way courtesy of Cupertino.

With a hat tip to AppleInsider for uncovering the patent freshly granted to Apple, the design for what's called "iTime" is fascinating indeed. According to the abstract description of this wrist-worn electronic device:

According to one embodiment, an electronic wristband can provide additional electrical circuitry or devices that can be made available for use as or with an electronic device. In one embodiment, the electronic device can be a mobile electronic device that can be removably coupled to the electronic wristband which provides the additional circuitry or devices. Advantageously, the electronic device can utilize the additional electrical circuitry or devices provided within the electronic wristband to augment the capabilities of the electronic device. In another embodiment, the electronic device can be integrally formed with the electronic wristband which provides the additional circuitry or devices.
Given the comprehensive and complex design of iTime, what we see here is a truly remarkable innovation in wearable tech that lends to users a full slate of features and capabilities across the present landscape of devices that don't offer features related to arm and wrist gestures, proximity sensing, and other capabilities only made possible through a variety of unique strap-based sensors.

Based on the design, Apple's iTime supports multiple straps, each of which could provide a different base function suited for the user's activity at a particular time. Also, given the personal wireless network outlined in the patent filing, iTime would naturally be able to connect with iDevices or even computers for the purpose of sharing data, information, or other communications.

Clearly, the possibilities here for health services, fun, communications and more are vast. The only question now is whether "iTime" is something coming soon or something merely on the drawing board for the future.

    Only "time" will tell.
