    Default European Commission Blasts Apple

    Another day, another criticism.

On Friday, BBC news reported that Apple is being once again subjected to harsh criticisms from the European Commission over the company's purportedly inadequate in-app purchase policies. But don't think Apple is alone in withstanding this scrutiny. Google is right there with them.

The Commission is seeking to compel Apple and Google to make the "true cost" of downloadable games clear. Unfortunately for Apple, the iDevice maker was blasted most severely for not making a substantial enough commitment to fix what the Commission sees as a huge problem.

"Regrettably, no concrete and immediate solutions have been made by Apple to date to address the concerns linked in particular to payment authorization," a statement from the Commission reads. "Apple has proposed to address those concerns. However, no firm commitment and no timing have been provided for the implementation of such possible future changes."

Not surprisingly, Apple doesn't see things the same way, claiming in response to the allegations that it's doing "more than others" to safeguard families from unwanted in-app purchases. "These controls go far beyond the features of others in the industry," an Apple spokesman is quoted in today's report.

I'm fed up with these 'free' apps that have lots of expensive in-app addons, trying to explain to my kids that the app they are seeing which boldly says FREE at the top of the screen, but only after you scroll down to the bottom do you see that some of the in-app addons are 69.99 are not free if you want to progress quickly or remove ads makes me sound like a miserable dad

The in-app purchase list needs to be at the top of the screen when viewing it on the device (iTunes is far clearer)

In app purchases are the biggest rip off the world has ever seen, all it's designed to do is take your money out of your pocket and for what a few hours of fun on an app that will get neglected with in a week
