According to GigaOm, Mozilla, the company behind FireFox is trying to compete with Apple TV and other products by working on a stream stick set. The device is supposedly named “Netcast” and runs Mozilla’s own Firefox OS within the Firefox browser. The Netcast will allow developers to incorporate technology into applications on different operating systems and hardware devices, which is something the Apple TV does not currently offer.

The company told GigaOm that anyone is welcomed to work with Firefox OS. GigaOm also reported that a prototype device bought by that site can work with certain Google Chromecast-enabled applications (see video above). It is still unknown as to when the “Netcast” will be available to the public or if it’ll even be called the ‘Netcast.’ However, the leaked prototype is supposed to be launched sometime in the near future.
