Default 8 GB iPhone 5S and Cheaper iMac Expected to Debut at WWDC

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference is coming up next week, and there’s speculation that the company will be introducing its first major media gathering of the year. KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that stars of the show will be an 8GB iPhone 5s, a cheaper iMac, and OS X 10.10. Kuo also believes that the cheaper iMac and 8GB iPhone 5s will be unveiled when WWDC starts next Monday. The prediction goes hand in hand with Kuo’s report back in April that claimed Apple would be launching a low-cost iMac sometime in the near future.

Kuo has stated that Apple will be cutting iMac production costs by improving panel lamination and casing yields. With the new cost-saving measures, Apple’s low end all in one will be competing with PC giants Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard. Kuo revised his 2014 iMac shipment prediction from 4.8 million units to 4-4.5 million units, despite a more attractive price tag that will most likely boost sales. The prediction comes as Apple’s delays its iMac shipments to 3-5 days starting earlier this week.

Savings for the iPhone 5s will most likely come from a decreased internal storage, with Apple possibly looking to release an 8GB iPhone 5s. However, Kuo noted that Apple may hold off on this announcement as the update is minor.

Apple Will Not Debut New iMac, 8GB iPhone 5s at WWDC - Mac Rumors

Notable Apple journalist Jim Dalrymple disagrees.... I am putting money on Jim. Who wants to place a bet of 100$ that the iPhone 5S won't be 8GB?

16 GB devices are bad enough considering how much more space so many Apps take up, plus all the iCloud and streaming services (caches can and do eat up plenty of space, which is one way the Other category tends to grow inexplicably), as well as more space consumed by the OS itself / system partition. The fact than an 8 GB version of the latest device even exists is the biggest insult. An no, I'm not saying anyone is entitled to huge amounts of storage, but when the price of storage keeps falling and the space consumption is growing, to the point where an 8GB is about as adequate as a BMW Isetta in a NASCAR race, then something really seems wrong.
