Default Apple's iWatch Rumored to Include UV Light Exposure Sensor

Apple might be looking to lend a helping hand to those of you who are particularly prone to sunburns or are otherwise sensitive to harmful UV rays. One analyst believes the company will include a new UV exposure sensor in its so-called “iWatch.” The sensors would likely come from Austin, Texas-based Silicon Labs according to a recent note from Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis. Silicon Labs announced the new sensors in February, claiming that they are the industry’s first single-chip digital UV index sensors.

    According to Curtis:

These chips measure UV exposure to aid those with elevated risk of sunburn or just a general concern about excessive sun exposure, and we believe they may be of appealing [sic] to OEMs looking to differentiate in a crowded market.
Notably, tracking ultraviolet sun exposure is not the sensors’ only ability. According to Silicon Labs, they can also aid in analyzing heart rate, pulse, blood oximetry, and provide proximity and gesture control sensing using both infrared and ambient light methods. As a compact, multi-purpose chip, could come in handy for an iWatch and Apple has been exploring each of those features in the past. Industry analysts have previously speculated that Apple would turn to similar optoelectronic devices and the company has brought several former executives from pulse oximetry company Masimo Corporation on board in recent months.

The Cupertino California company’s business could be worth as much as $4 million in additional revenue for Silicon Labs this year according to Curtis. He predicts Apple may sell as many as 10 million iWatches before the end of 2014 if the product debuts later this year as rumored.

If the iWatch looked like that, then I'd rock that motha!!!

I'd rather have something that looks like a band instead of a watch since I'm not a fan of watches.

If that comes in sub 200 bucks and looks like that I would snag one too

Can it come with an X-Ray and gamma sensor too? That would be quite nice.

Sub $200? Doubt it, Apple wants to be exclusive and I wouldn't put it pass them that this will be $399, $299 the least.

I think a band would be sick, I like the concept in the pic… maybe a little wider if its touchscreen… but my nerd azz would buy one though

What would be even cooler 'if' it was a band is that it could be a screen all the way around and have a gyroscope in it. No matter how it twisted around, the screen would always display face up (or down, if you'd prefer that setting)!!!

If this is what it would look like, I might get one. I don't like the large square smart watches that are out or the big square face with a regular band that the iwatch is being portrayed as. That is very masculine looking. Big and chunky too.

This looks like a bangle bracelet. I don't wear a watch cause I don't like that tight feeling on my wrist. A loose bangle would work for me though. Not sure if guys would wear the bangle style. Maybe apple will do both!!!

Guys, would you wear the bangle style???? Please post your thoughts.

I don't know what a bangle bracelet is but a regular bracelet I wouldn't be embarrassed to where. I'm thinking more along the diameter of those Livestrong bracelets w/ a 1-1.5" screen surface

They've been saying all along that it was going to be a band with a wrap-around display. Two patents revealed years ago: Tensioned metallic band like a slap bracelet and a method for sensing the area of overlap to form a continuous display.

Nice! I never paid attention or read up on the iwatch before cuz don't like watches but this picture is what drew me to the article.

Thazsar, a bangle bracelet is just a very loose circular bracelet that floats up and down depending on the orientation of your arm. It can be resting on your wrist and hand, or raise your arm or push it up and it can be tight on the fatter part of the forearm. Not as tight as the livestrong rubber bracelets- bigger in diameter.

Who ever would have thought that a **** Tracy watch would be for real?????

Geez- I got sensor edited with the stars!!!!! A shortened form of the name Richard- and a cartoon character- geez sensors, get with it. D I C K Tracy. As in detective.
