Default Ortiz-Obama 'Selfie' Reported To Be a Paid Samsung Stunt

It has been reported that the White House is unhappy with South Korean electronics maker Samsung. The claim was apparently over Samsung’s sponsored ‘selfie’ where President Barack Obama was accidentally part of. The incident happened this past week when the World Series champion Boston Red Sox were recognized by the White House. Designated hitter David Ortiz posed for a ‘selfie’ with President Obama on Ortiz’s Samsung smartphone.

In this apparent situation, the White House didn’t know that David Ortiz was sponsored by Samsung, and officials were unhappy about the President being roped into what is declared as being a promotional stunt. Since the incident, it has been reported that the stunt was paid for by the company since they are official sponsors of Ortiz. Samsung Mobile also retweeted the image to promote his use of the Galaxy Note 3.

The New York Daily questioned Samsung on whether the picture was sponsored, to what the company issued a statement saying they “didn’t know if or what he would be able to capture.” The White House told CBS News senior White House correspondent Bill Plante that they had no idea the image was a Samsung promotional effort.

As for Ortiz, he insisted that the picture with President Obama was not sponsored by Samsung and was unplanned. This is the second time Samsung was linked to high-profile celebrity ‘selfies’ to promote their devices this year. The first was during the Academy Awards in March where Ellen DeGeneres took a selfie with many high-profile celebrities using a sponsored Galaxy Note. However, several reports stated that the famous comedian posted pictures throughout the night using her own iPhone as opposed to the sponsored Samsung smartphone.

    'Money influences human behaviour! Exclusive!'

This is barely news let alone something you should get angry about. It's a competitive free market and I applaud Samsung's bold moves.

I find it funny. Pres could have said no.

I think the Prez would have said no if Ortiz had let him in on the secret.

Every new pic with the galaxy 5 or the new note seem to be paid endorsements.

He's the most powerful man in the free world, he's constantly surrounded by secret service agents... why is he even taking selfies? Whatever happened to the days of asking someone "hey, would you mind taking a picture of us?" Hell, he's the President and Commander-in-Chief, he could order someone "hey you! Take a picture of us!" The whole concept of a selfie seems beneath the office, in my opinion.

(And honestly, I'm one of Obama's biggest supporters usually, but this selfie business has got to end!)

Are those Samsung executives standing behind them?

    That would be unconstitutional.

The term "selfie" just has to die.

This just proves that Samsung needs to pay people to use their phones. LOL

They might be "paying" T-Mobile to not make the HTC One M8 available until the Samsung S5 is ready. The HTC One M8 is ready but people have to wait....
